The Shelly BLU Motion ZB is a compact, battery-powered motion and light sensor that allows you to create smart automations without running wires or drilling holes. The device uses a PIR sensor to detect motion and a built-in LUX sensor to measure ambient light levels, ensuring that it triggers scenes only when they’re truly needed. It supports both Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth 5 LE with BTHome, and the included CR2477 battery provides up to 5 years of operation. Its compact dimensions of 28 × 37 × 37 mm and double-sided tape mounting allow you to easily place the sensor on a wall or ceiling exactly where it’s needed.

Smart Motion and Light Detection

The PIR sensor offers adjustable motion detection sensitivity, allowing you to tailor its performance to different rooms and minimize unwanted activations, such as those triggered by pets or distant movement. The built-in light sensor supports three configurable brightness levels—dark, twilight, and bright—with the option to set custom thresholds. This allows you to create precise automations that take into account both user presence and current lighting conditions.

Two Communication Technologies and Broad Compatibility

The Shelly BLU Motion ZB can operate simultaneously on both the Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth 5 LE networks, providing great flexibility when designing a smart home system. Support for the BTHome standard facilitates integration with Shelly devices and compatible platforms. The sensor works with Shelly Plus, Pro, Gen3, and Gen4 devices, Zigbee 3.0 hubs, the Shelly Smart Control app, and platforms such as Home Assistant.

Long battery life and easy installation

The device is powered by a single CR2477 battery included in the package, which provides up to 5 years of operation without needing replacement. Its wireless design and installation using double-sided adhesive tape allow you to mount the sensor without tools. Additionally, Beacon mode sends status updates every 30 seconds, and the LED indicating motion detection can be turned off in the Shelly app.

Secure communication and advanced automations

The Shelly BLU Motion ZB uses AES encryption in CCM mode, ensuring secure communication with other system components. When connected to a compatible gateway, you can create your own scenes and automations using JavaScript scripts. The sensor can turn on lights, send notifications, or control other smart home devices depending on detected motion and light levels.

Versatile Use in a Smart Home

The Shelly BLU Motion ZB is ideal for hallways, automatically turning on the lights when motion is detected in low-light conditions, which enhances convenience and reduces energy consumption. In the living room, it can activate evening scenes when twilight sets in, and in the home office, it can turn on lights and equipment only when needed. The sensor can also be mounted at the entrance to the house, to trigger notifications or turn on lights when motion is detected after dark, as well as in the bedroom to activate soft night lighting, or in the garage and backyard to monitor activity after dark.
